Weighted Key Results

Key Result Weightings, change key result weightings, configure kr weightings

Overview

Some Key Results matter more than others in driving an Objective forward. Key Result weighting lets you add a multiplier to increase or decrease each KR's relative weight in how the Objective's overall progress is calculated.

You'll still see each Key Result's actual progress on the OKR detail view — weighting only changes how much it moves the Objective's needle.

Note: To turn on Key Result weighting for your organization, contact your Customer Success Manager. It's an org-wide setting that applies to every Objective's progress % and RAG calculation - there's no way to enable it for just one team.

How the Default Weight Is Calculated

Before anyone manually adjusts a Key Result's multiplier, WorkBoard assigns a default based on how much of the Objective's timeframe that Key Result covers.

Default multiplier = the Key Result's fraction of the Objective's span:

  • A Key Result spanning the Objective's full timeframe defaults to 1.000.

  • When both the Objective and the Key Result use a named period (Quarter, Trimester, Half Year, Annual), the multiplier comes from the table below. For example, a Quarterly Key Result under a Trimester Objective defaults to 0.750 - not the 0.250 you'd get by treating it as a fraction of a fiscal year.

  • If either side uses a custom date range, the multiplier is the Key Result's day count ÷ the Objective's day count.

This multiplier feeds three things: the Weighting shown on this Objective, the Objective's rolled-up progress %, and its rolled-up RAG. Your displayed weight is always this raw multiplier divided by the sum of every Key Result's raw multiplier on the Objective — so weights on an Objective always add up to 100%.

A manually set weight (steps below) replaces the default and stays fixed — WorkBoard never recalculates it automatically, even if the Key Result's dates change later.

Add and Configure KR Weightings on an Objective

  1. Hover over the Objective and click the kebab (⋮) menu.

  2. Select Edit Settings.

  3. Click Change weights.

  4. Adjust the Multiplier (0 to 1) for each Key Result.

  5. Click Save.
