Explore & Visualize Your Own Strategy Execution Data with Analytics Studio

Updated today

Overview

Analytics Studio empowers you to explore, analyze, and visualize your organization's strategy execution data to understand and interrogate patterns, track progress, and uncover opportunities for alignment and stronger execution.

Key capabilities include:

  • Your WorkBoard data pre-integrated with Power BI

  • Access to the full dataset and structure to enable flexible, customized analysis

  • Create, save, and share your own analyses and visualizations to drive better decisions with business stakeholders

With Analytics Studio, you can go beyond existing pre-defined analytics to design interactive dashboards that allow you to explore and answer the questions that matter most to your business and organization. These insights can be shared with a broader stakeholder group and embedded directly into Biz Reviews to seamlessly support ongoing dialogue and next steps.

Please contact your CSM or Account executive to learn more about getting access to Analytics Studio for your organization.

Who Can Use Analytics Studio & Intended Audience

Access to Analytics Studio is limited to users who are explicitly granted a license. This license should be assigned to someone who:

  • Is trusted with organization-wide data access

  • Is familiar with Power BI or data visualization tools

  • Has the skills to create meaningful, actionable reports from raw datasets

The person building reports in Analytics Studio is often a strategy analyst, operations lead, or someone supporting cross-functional teams. Once reports are built and published, they can be easily shared with business stakeholders through Biz Reviews for broader visibility.

Note: Anyone with Analytics Studio access in your organization can see all draft and published reports created by other licensed users within your instance of Analytics Studio. This visibility helps reduce redundancy, promote reuse, build shared insight, and allow collaboration on the same report from multiple users.

How to Use Analytics Studio

Accessing Analytics Studio

Licensed users can access Analytics Studio by clicking the nine-dot menu in the upper-left corner of WorkBoard and selecting Analytics Studio. This brings you to the main dashboard where you can view all reports created in your organization—both your own and those created by others.

To create a new report, click the blue New Analytics button in the top-right corner.

Available Datasets

When you start a new report, you'll be prompted to select a dataset. Each dataset includes a built-in data dictionary that defines the available fields. The datasets available include Objectives and Key Results, Workstreams, and Meetings (including 1:1s and team meetings). Selecting a dataset gives you access to the fields necessary to begin building your report.

Note: Reports can only use one dataset at a time. Data available in Analytics Studio is refreshed on an hourly basis.

Creating a New Report

Once a dataset is selected, Analytics Studio launches an embedded Power BI editor. From here, you can drag fields from the dataset into the canvas and build visuals like bar charts, tables, filters, and more. This interface supports full Power BI functionality within your browser.

To save your report for the first time, use the File > Save As option to name your report and create an initial saved copy. After this initial save, all subsequent changes can be saved using the Save Draft button in the top-right corner of the editor.

Once a report has been saved, you can continue editing it as needed. You also have the option to rename your report or update its description by clicking the kebab menu (three-dot icon) next to the report name and selecting Edit Properties.

When you're ready to share your work, use Save & Publish to make the report available for others to view and embed.

Note: If a report has already been published, any subsequent changes you make and save will become visible to everyone who has access to that report.

Sharing an Analytics Studio Report with Others

Publishing a report does not automatically make it visible to end users in your organization. Given the potentially sensitive nature of report content, Analytics Studio includes an additional layer of security to control visibility.

After publishing a report, a WorkBoard Admin must explicitly manage its permissions by navigating to Admin Tools > Biz Review Analytics. From there, they can search for or select a published report, choose to share it with specific teams or individual users, or make it available to everyone in the organization. This step ensures that Analytics Studio reports are shared intentionally and only with the appropriate audiences.

Embedding in a Biz Review

Once a report is shared, authorized users can embed it into their Biz Reviews by opening a Biz Review, clicking Add Analytics, and selecting the shared Analytics Studio report from the picker. The report will then appear as part of the Biz Review, enabling tailored visual insights alongside key performance metrics and qualitative updates.

With Analytics Studio, strategy leaders and data-savvy team members can dive deeper into organizational data—surfacing trends, clarifying progress, and driving alignment, all through lenses that are unique to your organization. It gives you the control to ask and answer the questions that matter most to your business, using data that reflects how your strategy is truly being executed. The reports built in Analytics Studio become reusable assets that bridge strategy and execution, helping teams make smarter, faster decisions in the moments that matter.
