Advanced Key Results Options

Overview

Overview

You can set a KR's duration and choose from a range of key result types when creating a key result.

To view and set advanced key result options, click "Advanced options" and select one of the buttons in the side pane

Set independent Key Result dates

  • By default, a Key Result's timeframe matches its parent Objective. Give it its own start and end date when work doesn't line up with the Objective's full length - a one-month launch inside a quarterly Objective, for example:

  • Choose a named period or a custom range. Periods that don't fit inside the Objective are shown inactive, and you can't pick a custom date outside the Objective's span.

  • A Key Result's dates set its default weight - see Weighted Key Results.

  • While any Key Result has dates that don't match its Objective, the Objective's own dates can't be edited.

  • Set a single key result target:

    • Select one target for your key result.

  • Set multiple key result targets for the period:

  • Measure progress of actions from a WorkBoard workstream:

  • Mirror one key result:

  • Roll-up key results or objectives:

    • You might roll up key results if you want to sum, average, or combine other results into one. For instance, a key result could provide the average of sales pipeline across a North American salesforce or total the number of developers hired across departments and locations.

    • You might roll up objectives to easily derive top-level business unit objectives from one or more child objectives. For example, you can create a single, top-level objective that automatically rolls up the objectives from your e-staff objectives. The detail view on the parent objective will show the current status of each child objective, and you can click into each one to see individual key result details.

  • Pull data from external applications:

  • Cascade results to multiple people:

    • To quickly align your organization to your company's strategic priorities for the quarter, you can easily cascade a key result down through one or more layers of the org chart. As each individual updates their cascaded key result, those values will automatically roll back up through the organization and into your top-level OKR.

Progress Calculation Options

  • Should increase to: when you are looking to increase to a specific target value

    • Example: Starting from 0 MQLs moving to 10 MQLs

  • Should decrease to: when you are looking to decrease to a specific target value

    • Example: Starting from 100 bugs moving to 10 bugs

  • Should be equal to: when your target is a specific number

    • Example: Hire 10 developers (not more, not less, exactly 10)

  • Should fall within a range: when the target can fall within 2 numerical values to still be met

    • Example: Starting from $0 aiming to move towards a range of $10-15

  • Should not exceed: when the value should not exceed the target value

    • Example: Spend no more than $5,000 for the quarter.

  • Should not fall below: when the value should not fall below the target value

    • Example: Meet uptime expectations of 97%

There's also the option to enable stretch targets to better measure your Key Result's progress. Enabling stretch targets adds a 'Stretch Target' and 'Committed Target' field on the edit page. The committed target will define the Key Result's progress and the RAG calculation. For more information on enabling stretch targets, please contact your WorkBoard Customer Success Manager.
